Softball Falls To Minnesota In Final Game Of ACC/B1G Challenge

RALEIGH - The NC State softball team dropped its final game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium to No. 13/13 Minnesota, 7-1.
The Gophers improve their undefeated record to 8-0 while the Wolfpack falls to 2-7 on the season.
Quick Hits
-NC State made a presence in the first inning with two runners on base, as Tyler Ross reached on a strikeout-wild pitch and Jade Caraway bunt-singled to third base to lead off the batting order.
-Minnesota scored four of its runs in the bottom of the first. Sam Macken led off with a double to right field, which was followed by a single to left field by Danielle Parlich who advanced to second on the throw. With two runners on base and no outs, Maddie Houlihan stepped up to the plate and smacked a 2-RBI single to left field to bring Macken and Parlich across the plate.
-With one on base and two outs in the frame, Sydney Dwyer drove in two more runs as she homered, making the score 4-0.
-Minnesota extended its lead in the fourth inning to six. With one runner on first Taylor Chell belted the Gophers' second home run of the game to left center.
-In the top of the sixth the Pack tallied its lone run. With two outs on the board and Ross on first after drawing a walk, Molly Hutchison doubled up the middle to send Ross home.
-The Gophers answered back in the bottom of the inning with its third home run of the game, as Wagner went deep to left field.
-In the final frame of the game, Natalie Jones pinch hit for Alyssa Compton and doubled to the right center to tally NC State's third hit.

NC State will travel to Cathedral City, Calif., for the Mary Nutter Classic Feb. 23-25. The Pack is slated to play New Mexico State, No. 6/5 UCLA, No. 4/6 Oklahoma, RV/RV Oregon State and Northwestern, with two games a piece Thursday and Friday at 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. ET and one game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET.Â
