LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After becoming just the second doubles tandem in program history to qualify for the main draw at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, junior Claudia Wiktorin & sophomore Anna Rogers had a stellar opening day as they won both their matches against higher-ranked opponents at the Riviera Tennis Club, advancing to the quarterfinals.
The day started with Wiktorin & Rogers, who are ranked No. 26 on the ITA preseason doubles poll, taking on No. 16 Fatima Bizhukova & Gabriela Porubin of Wichita State. Wiktorin & Rogers held on to win 8-6 and hoped that momentum would carry over to their match in the evening.
They then faced No. 4 Jada Hart & Ena Shibahara of UCLA, and prevailed 8-6 consolidating their second win of the day.
Assistant Coach David Secker was thrilled with how Wiktorin & Rogers played.
"Great performance to end the day today against a very good UCLA team," he explained. "We have been able to put together the game plan they have been working on each match for some high level doubles today. A good day for the Pack."
