HANAHAN, S.C.- The NC State women's golf team opened up its 2016-17 season in strong fashion on Sunday at the Cougar Classic, as sophomore India Clyburn fired a three-under par 69 and the Wolfpack carded an 18-hole total of 285 (-3). Both Clyburn and the Pack sit in sixth place among their respective leaderboards.
The team's 18-hole score at Yeamans Hall Club ties the sixth-lowest mark in program history, as the Wolfpack had three players post rounds of even par or better.
Clyburn's outing stands as the second-lowest 18-hole score of her career while Ko tied her career-best collegiate total.
Despite making the turn at four-over senior Sarah Bae managed to fire three birdies on the backside to turn in a 74 ( 2), while sophomore Leonie Bettel put together a strong back nine to also post a 74 and round out the Pack's first day of competition.
In the team standings Furman leads the 21-team field with a 10-under par 278, while UNC-CH and Wake Forest round out the top three with scores of 281 (-7) and 282 (-6), respectively.
NC State will be paired with competitors from Auburn and Furman between 9:30 and 10:06 a.m. Monday, as all competitors will tee off from the first tee.

"The girls played with great heart today and it was fun to watch," said head coach Page Marsh. "The course gave us opportunities and we were able to capitalize on a few. They've been working really hard on their games and being supportive of each other, and it was evident today.
"It's always fun to open the season with a red number, but tomorrow we'll reset and play one shot at a time with passion and resilience."
