RALEIGH - NC State women's soccer head coach Tim Santoro is 2-for-2 in season openers.
In the debut match of his second season in charge of the Wolfpack (1-0), his side defeated local foe UNC-Wilmington by a final score of 2-1. Freshman midfielder Annah Lindberg stole the show, scoring in the 66th and 88th minutes to erase a 1-0 deficit.
Santoro's 2013 squad also won its season opener in dramatic fashion, pulling out a 3-2 win on the road at Navy. All three of the Wolfpack's goals in that match were scored in the second half.
Transfer Alexa Allen (Auburn) played a huge role in the match as well, recording two assists just hours after landing in Raleigh from an international stint with the Jamaican U20 National Team at the 2014 Caribbean Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Wolfpack dominated much of the first half, outshooting the Seahawks by a 4-1 mark. Junior Brittany Stanko led all field players with two shots (one on target), while teammate Jackie Stengel also put one on frame. NC State's back line--which included two underclassmen--held the UNCW offense to just one shot in the first 45 minutes.
On the other side of halftime, UNCW took a 1-0 lead when Katrina Guillou scored following a nice cross from teammate Lindsey Byrne. Guillou's near post run was right in line with the pass, which she was able to nick past goalkeeper Mackenzie Stelljes and just inside the far post.
In the 66th minute, Lindberg received a pass from Allen 30 yards from goal. A quick touch later, she hit a 25-yard rocket past the diving goalkeeper to pull the teams level.
Her second goal came at the end of a sustained spell of Wolfpack pressure. Quite like her first tally, Lindberg received a pass from Allen, turned, and fired one high and just inside the near post to make it 2-1.
NC State will next be in action at home on Sunday when the No. 11 Portland Pilots come to town. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Dail Soccer Field. The game will be broadcast for free on GoPack.com/AllAccess.
