TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The NC State women's golf team put itself in great position after the first day of the NCAA East Regional on Thursday. The Pack stands in fifth place, just three shots out of third in the 24-team field.
"I'm really proud of our effort today. Everyone played hard and gave their best," head coach Page Marsh said. "We were very determined and very patient."
All-ACC players Brittany Marchand and Augusta James led the way. Marchand (-4) shot a 68 and is tied for third overall. She scored six birdies on the day, including four on the front nine. James (-3) carded a 69, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 hole No. 4. She had birdies on the two holes before the eagle.
Lindsay McGetrick (+1) followed with a 73 and Ana Menendez counted with a round of 76. Rachael Taylor (+6) rounded out the lineup with a 78.
With 36 holes left to play, Marsh stressed consistency to the Wolfpack.
"We talked about this being a three-day event and patience was key," Marsh said. "It's a marathon, not a sprint."
