After two rounds at the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, sophomore Brittany Marchand has moved into third place with rounds three and four to come on Thursday and Friday. Marchand shot a 2-under 70 on Wednesday, and sits three shots off the lead at 3-under 141 through the first two rounds.
Marchand started the day at 1-under and in 12th place after Tuesday’s first round. She started today’s round at 1-over through the first eight holes, but a string of three birdies over the next four holes propelled her up the leaderboard.
Marchand carded a bogey on No. 16, but recovered with another birdie, her fourth of the round, on No. 17. She is in a three-way tie for third place at 3-under, all chasing Brooke Pancake of Alabama who sits at 6-under through the first two rounds.
As a team, NC State improved six strokes from Tuesday’s first round, as the Pack shot a 6-over 294 on Wednesday, and currently sits in a tie for 13th place at 17-over 593.
Alabama is the only team under par after two rounds, sitting in first place at 5-under 571 atop the leaderboard.
Sophomore Ana Menendez recorded an eagle on the par-five No. 9, and finished the day at 2-over 74, a four-shot improvement from her first round score of 6-over.
Freshman Augusta James finished with a birdie on her final hole to shot 3-over 75, matching her score from yesterday. Junior Amanda Baker also shot a three-over 75 for the second straight day.
Freshman Vivian Tsui was 5-over 77 on Wednesday, a one-shot improvement from the first round.
On the day, the Pack found success on the par-five No. 9. NC State’s five golfers recorded one eagle, three birdies, and one par.
The 2012 NCAA Championship is being played this week at the par 72, 6,377 yard Vanderbilt Legends Course in Franklin, Tenn.
