RIO GRANDE, P.R. - Vivian Tsui's steady play helped her navigate her way into the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, while No. 20 NC State slid one spot to seventh in round two of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Monday at Rio Mar Country Club's River Course.
State's 8-over par 296 moves them to 22-over, improving on its first day 302, but easier playing conditions meant the Wolfpack lost ground on No. 11 Georgia's team lead at 9-over. No. 10 LSU ended up one shot shy of the Bulldogs in second.
The Pack remains within striking distance of No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 45 Arkansas at 14-over, No. 28 Texas Tech at 18-over, and No. 31 Purdue at 20-over, while holding leads over No. 36 Northwestern, No. 38 Iowa State, No. 40 Kent State, No. 33 TCU, and No. 50 Michigan.
Tsui fired a 1-over par 73 in the second round to climb four spots in the second round. The freshman has a chance in Tuesday's final round to better her season-best seventh place finish set at the Wolfpack's final event of the fall.
Augusta James rebounded from a rough outing on day one to card the Pack's best score on Monday, a 2-under par 70 to leap 43 spots into a tie for 24th. James shredded the back nine with four birdies on her way to a 3-under par going out.
Ana Menendez also improved in the second round with a 3-over par 75 to pick up nine spots. Menendez sits 28th heading into the final round. Brittany Marchand's 78 puts her 41st. Amanda Baker took a tumble with an 86 after getting through day one in 14th.
Round one leader Emilie Burger of Georgia slipped into a tie for first with teammate Marta Silva Zamora and Purdue's Laura Gonzalez at 4-under.
