
Swimming and Diving Splits with Clemson

NC State swimming and diving split its ACC meet against Clemson on Sunday, Jan. 24, with the women winning 163.5-136.5 and the men falling 153-145.
The Wolfpack women move to 6-1 (3-1 ACC) on the year with the decision, while the men (5-1, 3-1 ACC) lost for the first time.
Morgan Robertson, Meghan Thompson, Zina Grogg and Allison Hendren got the women started by winning the 200-medley relay on a 1:45.90, while Marifrances Henley followed by taking the 1000 freestyle with a 10:12.35. Julianna Prim used a 1:50.14 to take first in the 200 freestyle, marking the sixth-fastest swim in school history. Robertson then won the 100 backstroke with a 57.83.
Jessica Ward' s 1:05.52 was tops in the 100 breaststroke, as was Jennifer Kopenitz's 2:04.21 in the 200 butterfly. Hannah Hopkins placed first on the 3-meter dive with a 308.15. Prim later took second with a 51.89 in the 100 freestyle, and Kopenitz took second as well in the 200 backstroke with a 2:02.70.
Ward won again in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:18.72, as Kelsey Liu took second with a 2:21.23. Henley also claimed the 500 freestyle on a 5:01.96, before Grogg's 56.77 captured the 100 butterfly. Kopenitz, Erica Waters, Hendren and Henley ended the day by taking the 400-freestyle relay on a 3:29.87.
On the men's side, Ivan Kopas, Dan Forsythe, Barrett Miesfeld and Joe Martin used a 1:32.30 to take second in the 200-medley relay, while Brian Via (9:47.15) and Andrew Tollefson (9:52.74) went second and third in the 1000 freestyle. Brandon Kingston (1:40.95) and Jonathan Boffa (1:42.55) placed first and second in the 200 freestyle, and Kopas' 50.64 was second in the 100 backstroke.
Forsythe won the 100 breaststroke with a 56.59, while Martin's 20.92 took second in the 50 freestyle. Hudson Rains (319.70) and Chris Arcara (317:45) took the top two spots on the 1-meter dive, and Kopas used a 1:50.26 to win the 200 backstroke.
Forsythe won again, taking the 200 breaststroke with a 2:03.48, and Kingston did the same in the 500 freestyle on a 4:35.73. Miesfeld's 49.00 was tops in the 100 butterfly, and Rains (363.95) and Arcara (301.90) placed first and second again on the 3-meter dive.
NC State will return to action this Thursday. Jan. 27, at home against North Carolina. Action is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center on campus.
