
Swimming & Diving Falls to No. 12 UNC

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State fell to No. 12 North Carolina on Thursday night at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center, with the men dropping a 177-123 decision, and the women losing by a 197.5-99.5 score.
The defeat sends the Wolfpack men to 5-2 (3-2 ACC) on the year, while the women dip to 6-2 (3-2 ACC). The Tar Heel men improve to 7-1 (3-1 ACC), and the women climb to 6-2 (3-1 ACC).
The Wolfpack men collected six first-place finishes, two of which came from Brandon Kingston. Kingston first won the 200 freestyle on a 1:40.31, later taking the 500 freestyle with a 4:34.47. Dan Forsythe's 56.79 was good for first in the 100 breaststroke, and Joe Martin's 20.87 was tops in the 50 freestyle. Barrett Miesfeld used a 49.79 to collect the 100 butterfly, before Hudson Rains scored a 345.30 to take the top spot on the 3-meter dive.
Marifrances Henley grabbed the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a 1:50.68, later placing second in the 500 freestyle on a 4:57.78. Zina Grogg won the 100 butterfly after clocking in with a 56.54 time, and Julianna Prim was second in the 200 butterfly (2:03.67). Jessica Ward's 1:06.42 was third in the 100 breaststroke, and Allison Hendren's 24.01 placed her second in the 50 freestyle. Hannah Hopkins (311.55) and Kirstyn Shepler (259.80) took second and third respectively on the 3-meter dive.
NC State will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 29, at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. Diving events will begin at 8:40 a.m., while swimming will start at 12 noon.
