Callis Earns Two Golds at Junior National Championships

IRVINE, CA. - Future Wolfpack swimmers Emerson Callis, Vera Conic and Ethan Holloway competed on the national stage this week at the Speedo USA Junior National Championships in Irvine, California, held Aug. 3-7.
Coming off a successful week at the Toyota U.S. National Championships, the trio continued to make their mark in the pool as they prepared for their collegiate debuts with the Wolfpack.
Callis, an incoming freshman, carried her momentum from last week's national championships into Irvine after reaching the finals in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200m butterfly and 400m freestyle. She continued her strong summer with a pair of victories at Junior Nationals, winning the 200m butterfly in 2:10.92 and the 400 IM in 4:45.36.
Callis delivered impressive performances in both events, dropping four seconds from her preliminary time in the 200 butterfly and improving by 3.22 seconds in the 400 IM.
Ethan Holloway, the son of NC State Head Coach Braden Holloway, advanced to four finals throughout the week while recording three personal-best times. He set new bests in the 100m freestyle during prelims, the 50m butterfly in the final and the 100m butterfly during prelims.
Conic also turned in a pair of season-best performances in Irvine. She placed sixth overall in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:14.55 before recording another season best in the 100m backstroke, finishing 13th in 1:02.84.
With their final summer competitions now in the books, Callis, Conic and Holloway will turn their attention toward their collegiate careers with the Wolfpack.
