ALBUQUERQUE Junior Lauren Doughtie finally finished up her second round at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships on Thursday morning with an eight-over 80.
The Albuquerque area suffered severe windy conditions on Wednesday that forced two stoppages in play, which required many of the competitors to complete their second round today.
Doughtie was scheduled for a 2 pm MDT tee time on Wednesday, but wound up beginning her round much later than that and actually only completed one hole before play was called for the day.
She restarted at hole No. 2 on Thursday bright and early at 7 am.
Doughtie, ranked No. 45 nationally, got off to a tough start with a pair of bogeys.
After three pars on Nos. 4, 5 and 6, she recorded her first birdie of the round at the par-3 7th. However a bogey and double bogey followed and she was out in 41 (+5).
Doughtie got a stroke back with a birdie at the par-5 10th, but then went bogey, bogey, double bogey, par and bogey at No. 15 to fall all the way back to nine-over.
But she did finish on a bright note with another birdie at the par-5 18th to finish at 80 and completed her first two rounds at +12 (76-80=156) and is tied for 90th among 126 competitors.
Play was stopped again for lightning and wind at 10:30 am this morning, but it was a narrow storm front that allowed play to resume 20 minutes later at 10:50 am.
The third round is scheduled to begin with a 12:30 pm shotgun start on Thursday afternoon.
