Women's Golf Falls to 7th at ACC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. NC State had a tough day during Saturday’s second round of 2008 ACC Women’s Golf Championship with a team score of +27 (315) to fall into seventh place after beginning the day in a tie for fourth.
The Wolfpack were 16 strokes worse than it shot on Friday’s opening round. After 36 holes, NC State stands at +38 (299-315=614) at the difficult LPGA International Legends Course.
Sophomore Emily Street continues to pace the red and white. She will begin Sunday’s final round tied for 19th at +7 (72-79=151). The Forest City, N.C., native was all the way up to third on the leader board after a birdie at the par-5 2nd hole, but five bogeys and a double at the 17th dropped her back in the standings.
Freshman Julie Saleeby has been the most consistent Wolfpack golfer through two rounds by shooting consecutive five-over rounds of 77. She finds herself tied for 25th at +10 (77-77=154) after coming up with one birdie and five bogeys on her round today.
NC State senior Stephanie Derrey struggled to an eight-over 80 and is now tied for 28th at +12 (76-80=156).
Joanna Saleeby fired a seven-over 79 and stands tied for 32nd at +13 (78-79=157). Eight bogeys were offset by a birdie at the par-5 16th hole to highlight today’s round.
Junior Lauren Doughtie had her worst round of the season at a very bad time, shooting an uncharacteristic 85 that dropped her 26 places in the standings into a tie for 37th at +15 (74-85=159). Certainly out of the norm for the 59th rated player in college golf, Doughtie had seven straight bogeys and a quadruple bogey at the par-5 14th.
First-round leader Virginia was caught in the team standings by No. 1 Duke. The two clubs are tied at +3 (579), 10 shots ahead of third place Florida State.
Virginia’s Calle Nielson leads the field at 4 (140), one shot ahead of the nation’s best player, Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst 3 (141), the two-time defending ACC Champion.
Final round gets underway at 7:30 am on Sunday.
