Pack Women's Golf Places Seventh at ACC Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The NC State women’s golf team finished seventh at the 2007 ACC Championship after 54 holes at the par-72, 6,293-yard Carmel Country Club.
The Wolfpack began the day in sixth place among nine teams, but struggled in very tough conditions with a +40 (328) team total on Sunday. Today’s round was delayed 30 minutes by poor weather to start, while play was suspended for one hour due to thunderstorms later in the afternoon.
NC State wound up with a three-day total of +83 (306-313-328=947).
Freshman Emily Street paced NC State individually after a six-over 78 today. Her round featured one birdie, 10 pars and seven bogeys. Street wound up with another top-20 finish, placing in a tie for 15th at +15 (74-79-78=231).
Sophomore Lauren Doughtie shot an 83 today and finished tied for 24th overall at +21 (76-78-83=237).
Freshman Kathleen Strandberg had an 82 and finished tied with Doughtie at +21 (79-76-82=237) for the championship.
Junior Stephanie Derrey shot an 85 today and finished in 33rd place at +26 (77-80-85=242).
Freshman Cindel Gwyn had a 94 during today’s final round and finished 41st at +44 (83-83-94=260).
Duke sophomore Amanda Blumenherst came from behind to successfully defend her individual title by firing a two-over 74 for a four-under 212 total, three strokes ahead of Florida State’s Caroline Westrup who carded a one-under 215 total. Westrup, who shot a seven-over 79, led after the first two rounds, but Blumenherst grabbed the lead for good on the par-4 15th hole when Westrup carded a double-bogey 6 and Blumenherst tallied a par 4 score on the 375-yard hole.
Duke won the team title by posting a team total of +9 (287-284-302=873), followed by Wake Forest at +44 (297-296-315=908) and Florida State at +49 (290-302-321=913).
The title marks Duke’s 12th consecutive conference championship and their 15th overall. The Blue Devils grabbed the lead on the first day and never relinquished it, finishing 35 stokes ahead of runner-up Wake Forest.
