
Women's Golf Team in Third Place at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. – The NC State women’s golf team sits in third place after a strong showing during day one of the 2007 Pinehurst Challenge on Monday at the par 72, 5,978-yard Pinehurst #8 layout.
Freshman Kathleen Strandberg led the Pack with a four-over-par 76 in very windy conditions to place in a six-way tie for fourth overall. The Greensboro, N.C., native had three of NC State’s seven birdies on the day.
Strandberg is three shots behind individual leader Ashley Lambert of Richmond, who owns a two stroke advantage over the field after a one-over 73.
Freshman Emily Street shot a six-over 78 and is tied for 14th after 18 holes.
Sophomore Lauren Doughtie and junior Stephanie Derrey each fired a 79 to tie for 19th overall.
Senior Nancy Mountcastle is tied for 49th after shooting an 81.
East Carolina (308) leads the team standings by two shots over host College of Charleston (310). The Wolfpack is only four shots behind the Pirates.
Second and final round action begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 am on Tuesday
