Wolfpack Women's Golf Finishes 9th at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. No. 34 NC State finished ninth at the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall Pines-Ocean course, a par 72, 6,072-yard Jack Nicklaus layout.

The Wolfpack fired a team-total of +27 (315) during Sunday’s final round and finished at +73 (319-303-315=937) over the 54-hole tournament.

Junior Lauren Doughtie and sophomore Emily Street wound up being the Pack’s top finishers, placing in a tie for 35th overall at +18 (234).

Doughtie (79-79-76=234) fired a four-over 76 on Sunday. The Suffolk, Va., native had two birdies, 10 pars and six bogeys on her round today.

Street (81-75-78=234) shot a six-over 78 today after seven bogeys and a birdie at the par-5 10^th hole.

Senior Stephanie Derrey’s up-and-down tournament continued with an 81 today to finish tied for 38^th at +19 (81-73-81=235). She struggled right from the start with four bogeys in her first five holes and was never able to recover.

Sophomores Joanna Saleeby shot her second round of 80 in the tournament to finish tied for 44^th at +21 (80-77-80=237). She birdied the second hole and was at even par until three straight bogeys at Holes 7, 8 and 9 set her back. Three more bogeys and a double bogey in her final four holes of the day off set five straight pars from Holes 10-15.

Kathleen Strandberg shot an 84 and finished tied for 50^th at +25 (79-78-84=241).

Wake Forest held on to its lead even though it piled up 20 more strokes than it did on Saturday. The Demon Deacons won with a team score of +14 (296-281-301=878).

Wake Forest’s Nannette Hill earned medallist honors with a +1 (217) score. Purdue’s Christal Boeljon led after the first two days, but fired an 81 on Sunday to fall back into a tie for 8^th at +5 (68-72-81=221).

This concludes the Wolfpack’s fall portion of its schedule. The next action will be in late February at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
