
Women's Golf Leads After 36 Holes in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. An even-par round by Emily Street and a pair of two-over 74’s by Stephanie Derrey and Lauren Doughtie propelled the NC State women’s golf team into first place after two rounds at the 2007 Price’s “Give Em Five” Invitational on Tuesday.
The field of 16 teams are competing at the New Mexico State University Golf Course, a par-72, 6,319-yard track.
The Wolfpack, the No. 21-ranked team in the nation, posted the best round of the day with a (+11) 299 and will hold a one-shot lead heading into the final 18 holes tomorrow.
NC State is at +26 (303-299=602) for the tournament, followed by Idaho and Michigan at +27 (603). Kansas is in fourth at +28 (604) and Oklahoma is at +29 (605). In fact, the top-eight teams are only separated by six shots.
Street, who garnered a No. 35 ranking by Golfstat in the latest rankings, fired the second-lowest round of the day with an even-par 72. She is tied for 16th overall at +7 (79-72=151).
Derrey, the lone senior of the group, continued her consistent play with another round of 74 and is tied for 8th at +4 (74-74=148), only four shots in back of the leader, Lene Hafsten-Morch of Baylor.
Doughtie also fired a two-over round of 74 and will enter tomorrow’s final 18 holes tied for 13th at +6 (76-74=150).
Joanna Saleeby fell back in the pack with a seven-over 79 on Tuesday. She is tied for 28th at +9 (74-79=153) after beginning the day in the top-10.
Freshman Julie Saleeby is tied for 59th at +15 (79-80=159).
The Wolfpack last won a tournament at the Papa John’s Collegiate in Miami Lakes, Fla., which took place Feb. 19-21.
The third and final round concludes the tournament tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 am (MDT).
