
Ballerano Two-Over, Leads Wolfpack In First Round

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - The NC State women's golf team began it spring season Sunday with the first round of the Papa John's Collegiate at Shula's par 72, 6,190-yard Golf Resort. The Wolfpack is 24-over-par after the 18 holes and stands eighth in the 12 team field. Lorraine Ballerano shot two-over-par to lead NC State in the opening round and is tied for seventh place individually.
Lauren Harling, playing in her first collegiate tournament, fired six-over in the first round and is tied for 28th. The freshman shot par on 13 holes, a figure that ranks ninth on the day. Ashlee Dean and Molly Birmingham are both eight over, while Stephanie Derrey, also playing in her first collegiate tournament, is 10-over. Birmingham improved six strokes on the back nine, carding a one-over-par on the second half.
East Carolina is tied with the host school, Miami, for first place at eight-over, while the Hurricanes' Hagen Weintraub is tied for the individual lead with Emelie Lind of the Pirates at two-under. The Papa John's Collegiate continues Monday with a second round of 18 holes and concludes Tuesday with a third.
