
Vincent Cards One Under Final Round At Derby Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - Jessica Vincent shot one stroke under par in the final round of the Derby Invitational to lead the NC State women's golf team on Sunday. The Wolfpack finished in 12th place of talented field of 17 the includes six top 25 teams at Auburn's par 72 University Course at Yarbrough Farms. NC State improved each day and moved up two spots over the final 18 holes.
Nancy Mountcastle tied for the 28th place individually to lead NC State, finishing 12 over. The sophomore from Durham, N.C., fired a second round 73. Vincent finished one stroke behind Mountcastle and tied for 37th place. Molly Birmingham had all three rounds count and carded a five over third round, along with Mountcastle and Lorraine Ballerano. Ballerano improved each day and finished one stroke behind Lauren Doughtie, who had a four over second round.
Auburn beat top-ranked Duke by one stroke to win the tournament at 15 over and the Tigers' Maria Martinez shot four under in the final round to pull nine strokes away as the individual medalist at seven under. NC State returns to action Feb. 19-21 at the Papa John's Collegiate in Miami Springs, Fla. Complete results from the Derby Invitational are available at www.golfstat.com.
