Mountcastle Shoots One Over In Second Round

AUBURN, Ala.-Nancy Mountcastle shot one stroke over par in the second round of the Derby Invitational on Saturday to lead the NC State women's golf team. The Wolfpack improved eight strokes from the first round, but still slid to 14th place in a deep field of 17 that includes six top 25 teams at Auburn's par 72 University Club.
Mountcastle improved five strokes from the first round and is tied for 21st place at seven over. Lauren Doughtie shot a 76 in the second round, a five stroke improvement from the first round and she trails teammate Molly Birmingham by one stroke. Jessica Vincent is one stroke behind Doughtie. Vincent, Birmingham and Lorraine Ballerano each fired seven over in the second round.
Top-ranked Duke leads the tournament by five strokes at 12 over and Maria Martinez from Auburn is in first place at three under. The Derby Invitational concludes Sunday with a final round of 18 holes. Complete results, as well as live scoring, are available at www.golfstat.com.
