
Slow Start For Women's Golf At The Derby

AUBURN, Ala. - The NC State women's golf team is in 13th place of 17 teams after one round of the Derby Invitational at Auburn's University Club at Yarbrough Farms. Molly Birmingham leads the Wolfpack with a five-over score and is tied for 45th place individually. Playing in a field that features 10 top 50 teams, including six top 25 squads, NC State got off to a slow start over the first 18 holes.
Nancy Mountcastle trails Birmingham by one stroke and Jessica Vincent is just one behind Mountcastle. Lauren Doughtie and Lorraine Ballerano are also competing for NC State.
Auburn has a three stroke lead in its home tournament, going three over in the first round, and the Tigers' Marina Martinez is in first place at three under. The Derby Invitational continues with a second round Saturday and a final round on Sunday. Complete results, as well as live scoring, are available at www.golfstat.com.
