WILMINGTON, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team got off to a rough start at the Landfall Tradition Collegiate Golf Invitational and never really bounced back. Finishing the three-day, 54-hole tournament in 12th place, the Wolfpack shot 91 strokes over par at the Country Club of Landfall's par 72 Jack Nicklaus Course. Jessica Vincent shot 19 over to lead the Wolfpack and tied for 29th place individually.
Improving five strokes in the second round, NC State remained tied for ninth place with one round to play. The Wolfpack didn't play much worse in the final round, only firing an extra two shots, but the teams NC State had been beating the first two days shot much better scores in the third round to push the Pack to 12th.
Vincent carded a team-best 76 in the opening round and Stephanie Derrey matched it in the second round, but neither one could string together consecutive low-scoring rounds. Lorraine Ballerano was the only one in the Wolfpack lineup to improve each round.
Purdue won the tournament at 13 over and Boilmaker Christel Boeljon shot five under in the last round to earn medalist honors at four under. NC State returns to action next weekend at the Derby Invitational at the Unviersity Club at Yarbrough Farms in Auburn, Ala.
