Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - NC State finished its 2003-04 season Saturday with a 16th place finish of 21 teams at the NCAA Women's Golf East Region Championship at the Mission Inn's par-72, 6,165-yard El Campeon course. The Wolfpack improved a stroke in the final round and were led by the underclasswomen who will be returning next year.
"We're obviously disappointed with the outcome," said NC State head coach Page Marsh. "But, we were able to take away some goals for next season in that we can see the areas of improvement needed in order to reach nationals."
Lorraine Ballerano led the team in the final round with a six-over-par. Colby Cobb was one stroke behind her with 79, Courtney Pomeranz and Ashlee Dean shot 80, while Briana Vega fired 81. Pomeranz finished the tournament with a team-best 17-over-par.
Duke won the championship with a five-over-par final score and Meghan Francella from North Carolina captured medalist honors with a seven-under total. Complete results from the NCAA Women's Golf East Regionals are available at www.ncaasports.com and www.golfstat.com.
