The NC State women's soccer team defeated Campbell 4-0 behind a shutout from freshman goalkeeper Megan Connors, who made two saves to record her first scoreless game since starting three games ago. The defense was stellar in front of Connors, holding the Camels to five shots. Two Wolfpack players scored their first career goals as freshmen midfielders Carol Tognetti and Katherine Spencer scored in the first half for a 2-0 lead at the break for NC State.

Tognetti scored in the 36th minute off of a rebounded shot from sophomore forward Erin Ardler off the right side after another tremendous throw-in from freshman back Megan Buescher for her fifth assist of the season. Spencer followed up nearly five minutes later from the left side off of assists from junior forward Anna Helenius and Ardler's second of the match.

Junior forward Erin Griswold and senior forward Lindsey Underwood, the Wolfpack's two top scorers, both picked up goals in the second stanza to put the game away. Griswold found the ball at her feet and sprinted up the left middle of the pitch for a breakaway goal after assists from freshman Michelle Crocker and senior Adrienne Barnes. Griswold buried the ball low and away for her fourth goal of the year in the 77th minute.

Underwood scored her sixth goal of the season off of a perfect header into the right side of the net past keeper Erin Switalski of Campbell. The header was set up off of a perfect corner from the left side from Tara Knauss who placed the ball towards the far post where Underwood was able to utilize her 5-10 frame to score for the final goal of the game at 83:36.

"It was a great team effort out there tonight," said head coach Laura Kerrigan. "Griswold and Underwood both came off the bench in the second half to score for us and the two freshmen both earned their first goals. It was a positive feeling and experience for those two to get the ball into the back of the net."

Kerrigan and her team will travel to Columbia, S.C. for a 12:30 p.m. start against the Gamecocks of South Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 21.
