Wolfpack Finishes Fourth at ACC Women's Golf Championship

NC State finished fourth at the ACC Women's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon, despite shooting its lowest team score of the season. The Pack was just five-over par for the day with a total of 289, and finished with a three-round total of 905. Briana Vega was the low scorer on the day, firing a round of even par, while Sarah Bonner was the team's top finisher and tied for 10th overall with a score of 226. The 15th annual event was contested at the Salem Glen Golf Course, a par 71 measuring 6,348 yards.
Duke was crowned as the 2003 champion, placing its four scorers in the top seven of the field to combine for a team score of 877, 14 strokes ahead of second-place Wake Forest (893). North Carolina was third with a 903, Florida State fifth at 909 and Maryland rounded out the field with a 939.
Four schools were represented in the top five of the individual standings, with the Tar Heels' Meaghan Francella capturing the individual medallist honors with a three day card of 77-69-69=215. Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo and Wake Forest's Nuria Clau tied for second at 216, and Florida State's Kriatini Tamulis and Duke's Oui Nirapathpongporn tied for fourth at 217.
The Wolfpack's Bonner moved into the top 10 Sunday with a one-over-par 72. She finished the tournament with a line of 79-75-72 and was 13-over par. Vega charged through the field on the final day of competition after recovering from a first-round of 84. She looked great Saturday and Sunday with rounds of 72 and 71, respectively to finish tied for 12th with teammate Courtney Pomeranz. Sunday's round of 71 was Vega's second round at par on the year. Pomeranz led after the first round of play with a round of 74, and matched her performance on Sunday to finish with a three-round card of 227, 14-over par.
Erica Wein was just one-over par in the third round and finished in sole possession of 18th with a line of 78-83-72=233. Colby Cobb finished in a tie for 24th after shooting back-to-back rounds of 75 to finish with a score of 238.
