Stefani Wendelschaefer joined the NC State swimming and diving program ahead of the 2021-22 season as a volunteer coach before being promoted to assistant coach in 2022. Prior to the 2025-26 season, she was elevated to Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Since 2022, Wendelschaefer has worked primarily with the Wolfpack’s middle-distance group.
A key member of the Wolfpack coaching staff, Wendelschaefer has helped guide NC State to sustained success at both the conference and national levels. Most notably, during the 2025-26 season, she coached Eneli Jefimova to her first NCAA individual title, as Jefimova captured the national championship in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Since arriving in Raleigh, Wendelschaefer has contributed to one of the most successful stretches in program history. The Wolfpack men captured three consecutive ACC team championships from 2022-24, while both the men's and women's programs have recorded top-10 NCAA finishes in every season of her tenure.
Her accomplishments have also been recognized on the international stage. Wendelschaefer was selected as a USA Swimming National Team coach in both 2023 and 2024 and was named to the Team USA coaching staff for the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships.
Since joining NC State, Wendelschaefer has played an integral role in all facets of the swimming and diving program, helping athletes earn NCAA championships, All-America honors, conference titles, and international team selections. During her first season with the Wolfpack in 2021-22, the men's team captured the ACC Championship team title, while both programs matched then-program-best NCAA Championship finishes. The men placed fourth nationally to secure a team trophy, while the women finished fifth, marking one of the strongest combined performances in school history.
Throughout her tenure, Wendelschaefer has helped coach the Wolfpack to more than 100 All-America honors, including a program-record 67 All-America citations during the 2021-22 season. She was also a member of the coaching staff that guided NC State to a sweep of the men's and women's 100-yard backstroke national titles at the 2022 NCAA Championships. That season, the Wolfpack also claimed 11 ACC event championships en route to the conference team title.
Wendelschaefer has helped develop and coach numerous standout student-athletes, including Eneli Jefimova, Leah Shackley, Kennedy Noble, Heather MacCausland, Andrea Podmanikova, Meghan Donald, Sam Hoover, Arsenio Bustos, Daniel Diehl, and Noah Bowers.
Before arriving at NC State, Wendelschaefer served as an assistant coach at Grove City College and Washington & Jefferson College. A 2017 graduate of Grove City, she helped lead her alma mater to Presidents' Athletic Conference championships in both men's and women's swimming and diving during the 2019-20 season.
As a student-athlete at Grove City, Wendelschaefer was a member of four consecutive conference championship teams from 2014-17. She served as co-captain of the 2016-17 squad and earned three varsity letters during her collegiate career.
Wendelschaefer earned a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and also completed her Master's degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.
