RALEIGH, N.C. – Raleigh native Kate Kilpatrick will join the NC State volleyball for the fall 2026 season, head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney announced Tuesday afternoon.
The libero spent the last three seasons at Old Dominion, spending the last two as the starting libero.
Kate is a fantastic addition to our program, and it's incredibly special to bring a local Raleigh product back home to NC State. She comes from a proud Wolfpack family, and she carries that same athletic pride and drive as her dad Tim did with the football team (1989-92) years ago, said Wargo-Kearney. To achieve 1,000 career digs so quickly in her college career shows her abilities as a libero. Beyond her skills, Kate has a well-earned reputation as a phenomenal teammate who will help stabilize our backcourt defenders. We are excited to see the impact she will make in red and white.
As a freshman in 2023, Kilpatrick played in 31 matches and 117 sets, totaling 374 digs while immediately stepping into a key role in ODU's lineup.
She followed with a breakout sophomore campaign in 2024, leading the Monarchs with 391 digs (3.59 per set), while also contributing 110 assists and 27 service aces. Kilpatrick recorded double-digit digs in 21 matches and earned Old Dominion Invitational All-Tournament Team honors.
One of the highlights of her career came on Oct. 19, 2024, when she set a new Old Dominion program record with 40 digs in a match against Georgia State. She also posted a season-high 27 digs against James Madison and ranked among the Sun Belt Conference leaders in digs throughout the season.
During her junior campaign, she posted a season high 23 digs and 10 assists against Georgia State. She tallied her 1,000th career dig in the Monarchs Oct. 18 meeting with Georgia State, after finishing the match with 23 digs. She accomplished the milestone in just 75 matches.
Kilpatrick has proven success in the classroom as she is a two-time CSC Academic All-District team honoree and multiple semesters with a 4.0 GPA.
