RALEIGH, N.C. – Despite a strong offensive push and a sold-out crowd at Reynolds Coliseum, NC State (9-3, 0-1) fell to 24^th-ranked UNC (6-3, 1-0) in four sets in its ACC opener Friday evening.

The Wolfpack collected 19 kills in the opening frame and rallied to take the third set, but 15.0 Tar Heel blocks and late-match errors proved costly.

One: NC State generated 19 kills and battled through eight ties and three lead changes, but North Carolina edged out the marathon frame 28-26.
Two: The Wolfpack hit just .062 while dropping a 25-20 decision, hampered by 12 team errors against a sharp UNC net defense.
Three: Driven by Clara Vondran's six points, NC State weathered 11 ties and held off a late Tar Heel comeback to take the frame 25-23 and extend the match.

The Pack out-killed (55-54) and out-aced (5-4) the Tar Heels.

Sophie Groom's first block of the evening marked the 300^th of her career. She finished the evening with 4.0 total blocks. She also added a season high 10 kills.
Clara Vondran picked up her second career double-double after finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Eva Long posted 42 assists to begin conference action and added 10 digs to pick up her fourth career double-double.
The loss marked the first loss in Reynolds for the Pack this season.
