17 Track & Field Athletes Look to Punch a Ticket to Eugene at NCAA First Round East Regional

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State track & field team will have 17 athletes compete in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The athletes are set to compete in the East Region in Lexington, Ky, looking to finish top-12 in their respective event to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR, June 10-13.

LAST TIME OUT
At the 2026 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the men placed eighth and the women finished 12th. Combined, the teams earned five podium finishes and nine All-ACC honors.Â
On day one, Luke Thierfelder secured a third-place finish in the javelin, while Briley Bickerstaff placed sixth in the 10,000m.
Day two saw Tyson Adams place fourth in the long jump, Angelina finish as the runner-up in the steeplechase, and in only her second collegiate steeplechase race, Kate Putman earn fourth.
On the final day, Ryan John took third in the triple jump, while Ryan Farness followed with a fifth-place finish. Sadie Englehardt earned a runner-up finish in the 1500m, Elijah Dawes placed third in the 400m and Xavier Branker finished second in the 400m hurdles. Hannah Gapes also added a fifth-place finish in the 5000m.
Kyra Durham, Shaune Ingraham, Kate Putman and Alexis Mayhew also rewrote the NC State program record books in the 4x400m relay, breaking the school record with a time of 3:39.43. The quartet won its heat and placed eighth overall.
