RALEIGH – Tilda Trygger of the NC State women's basketball team has been tabbed to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Midseason Top 10 Watchlist, as announced by the Naismith Hall of Fame Friday. The award is for the best center in women's college basketball.
Trygger has averaged a career-high 12.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and a team-leading 1.3 blocks per game. She is logging a .545 field goal percentage (103-of-189) and .360 three-point percentage (18-of-50).
She has 12 double-digit, five double-digit rebounding games and four double-doubles. Trygger has logged at least six rebounds in all but two games this season.
Trygger registered three straight double-doubles this season, starting with 19 points and 11 rebounds at Clemson, 13 points and 10 boards vs. SMU and 18 points and 13 rebounds at Wake Forest.
In the ACC, Trygger is ranked 10th in rebounds per game, 11th in blocks per game and 21st in minutes per game (30.6). For ACC only contests, the Sweden native leads the league in field goal percentage (.573) and is ninth in blocks per game (1.5).
The award is named after three-time All-American, 1994 National Player of the Year and Class of 2015 Hall of Famer, Lisa Leslie. This honor is in its ninth year.
Trygger is one of two ACC centers on the watchlist with Miami's Ra Shaya Kyle being the other. The list will remain fluid as the season goes on to give players the opportunity to move on and off the list until the final five are selected. The list will narrow down to the final five and will be announced in March. The award winner and presentation details will be announced at the Final Four. Fan voting is now open.
The Basketball Hall of Fame has announced the top 10 midseason watchlists for each of its starting five awards throughout the week. NC State was well represented with Zoe Brooks on the watchlist for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Monday and Khamil Pierre on the watchlist for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Thursday.
NC State will hit the road to play at Virginia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 8 at noon. The game will be aired on ACC Network.
