Khamil Pierre Marked One of 10 on Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Midseason Watchlist

RALEIGH – Khamil Pierre of the NC State women's basketball team is one of 10 named to the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Midseason Watchlist, as announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Thursday. The award is given to the best power forward in women's college basketball.
Pierre is averaging a double-double of 16.3 points and a career-high 11.9 rebounds per game. She is also averaging a career-high .533 field goal percentage (160-of-300). Pierre has tallied 20 double-digit scoring games, six 20-point games, 15 double-digit rebounding games and 14 double-doubles. Her 14 double-doubles mark the eighth most in a single season in school history.
The Phoenix, Arizona native has logged a streak of three straight double-doubles three times during the season and had monster double-doubles with 12 points and a career-high 21 rebounds vs. Green Bay and 19 points and 20 boards at No. 9/9 Oklahoma. Pierre's 21 rebounds marked the third most in a single game in school history and she is the only one in Power 4 this season with two 20-rebound games.
In her Wolfpack debut, Pierre was named the Ro Greensboro Invitational Most Outstanding Player after 21 points, 14 rebounds and three steals in the win at No. 8/9 Tennessee. She was also the Cancun Challenge Yucatan MVP after averaging 15.5 points, 18.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game in two contests. She also logged 21 points and 13 rebounds in her ACC debut vs. Miami.
Pierre surpassed 1,000 career points against TCU this season, doing so in just 69 games, with 1,305 in her career. She also has 744 career rebounds and 146 career steals.
Pierre leads the ACC and is fifth in the country in rebounds per game and her double-doubles mark the most in the league and is sixth in the NCAA. She leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (8.4), which is seventh in the country. Pierre is also fourth in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage in the league.
She also was tabbed to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watchlist.
The award is named after two-time All-American, 1987 Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 2012 Hall of Famer Katrina McClain. The award is in its ninth year.
Pierre is one of three ACC power forwards on the watchlist. The list will remain fluid as the season goes on to give players the opportunity to move on and off the list until the final five are selected. The list will narrow down to the final five announced in March. The award winner and presentation details will be announced at the Final Four. Fan voting is now open.
The Basketball Hall of Fame announced the top 10 midseason nominees for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Monday.
NC State will host Florida State tonight, Thursday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
