Bordeleau’s Brace Not Enough as Catamounts Top Pack

RALEIGH, N.C. – A brace from Jade Bordeleau, with both goals assisted by Daisy Duda, wasn't enough for NC State women's soccer (0-4-1, 0-0-0 ACC) as the Pack fell 3-2 to Western Carolina (2-2-1, 0-0-0 SoCon) on Wednesday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The Pack set the tone early with its high-pressure attack, nearly breaking through in the fourth minute on a chance from Bordeleau. That chance was the first of 23 shots NC State would take on the night, and the pressure paid off in the 22nd minute as Duda sent a cross into the box, and Bordeleau finished it for her first goal of the season. The score gave the Wolfpack its first lead of the 2025 campaign.
Western Carolina created a few early chances, but Alex Mohr and the rest of the Pack back line held firm, clearing the ball out of danger on multiple occasions. The Catamounts finally broke through in the 40th minute when Gabriela Vatrano lofted a shot over the outstretched arms of Emily Earles to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.
WCU carried its momentum into the second half, striking just 90 seconds after the restart on a goal from Ava Robitaille. The Catamounts' advantage didn't last long, though, as Duda delivered a well-serviced corner kick in the 65th minute that Bordeleau buried to even the score at 2-2.
With both teams pressing for a winner in the closing minutes, it was Western Carolina who broke through in the 86th. Vatrano sent a ball into the box that found the foot of Sofia Goclowski, who slotted it home for the decisive goal.
Despite the loss, the Pack put together its best offensive performance of the season with its first multi-goal outing of the year. NC State also outshot WCU, 23-6, and controlled possession for 65% of the night.
Of Note:
The Wolfpack heads west to face Utah on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN+.

Of Note:
- Bordeleau's two goals are the first of her 2025 campaign and the seventh and eighth of her career. Her brace also marks her second-career multi-goal game, coming nearly a year after her hat trick on Sept. 15, 2024, against George Washington, the last time an NC State player recorded multiple goals in a single match.
- Bordeleau led the Pack's shooting attack with a personal-best nine shots, while eight different players recorded at least one scoring attempt in the loss.
- Duda recorded a pair of assists, the first of her collegiate career. She is also the first Wolfpack player to record multiple helpers in a single game since Lulu Guttenberger on Sept. 1, 2022, at Elon.
- Seven Wolfpack players went the full 90 minutes in the loss: Mohr, Yuna Aoki, Mana Nakata, Emily Wong, Earles, Brooklyn Holt, and Mackenzie Smith.
- Tonight's game marks the first multi-score game of the season for NC State.
- The Wolfpack have now outshot its opponent in three of its five games in 2025.
- The loss marks the first time that Western Carolina has defeated NC State in the lifetime series between programs.
