DAVIDSON, N.C. – NC State women's soccer (0-3-1, 0-0-0 ACC) came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Davidson (3-1-0, 0-0-0 A10) on Sunday at Alumni Soccer Stadium. The Wolfpack controlled much of the match, outshooting the Wildcats 10-4, but a 33rd-minute goal proved to be the difference.
In the first half, the Wolfpack controlled possession for long stretches in the attacking third but couldn't break through. Daisy Duda nearly put NC State ahead early with a shot on target that sailed just over the crossbar, while Emily Wong fired from outside the box later in the half, forcing a save after a deflection. Despite the Pack's pressure, it was Davidson that struck first, as Kiera Pohan found the net in the 33rd minute.
The Pack pushed for an equalizer after the break, outshooting Davidson 8-3 in the second half, but was unable to capitalize on its chances. Erica Roberts provided a spark off the bench with a team-high three shot attempts, while Sophia Hernandez also made an impact in her 20 minutes of action, helping control possession in the final third. Despite the late pressure, Davidson held on to secure the 1-0 result.
Of Note:
NC State returns home to Dail Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 27, to host Western Carolina at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ACCNX.
