RALEIGH, NC – No. 13 NC State begins the month of May on a seven-game road trip with its first stop, a three-game series in Coral Gables, to take on Miami beginning on Friday, May 2nd at 7 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ACCNX and head on the WKNC 88.1 FM or the Varsity Network App.
The second annual victory over cancer game was a success. NC State baseball set a goal to raise $60,000 this year after raising over $50,000 last season and raised $64,892 to support pediatric cancer research. 100% of the donations benefit the V Foundation through the Trea and Kristen Turner Fund.
The Wolfpack will look to get back in the win column after dropping a midweek contest to UNCW on Tuesday. NC State has won seven straight ACC contests entering the weekend after a sweep of No. 2 Clemson. The Wolfpack has dropped just one conference series all season.
This will be the 63rd all-time meeting between the Wolfpack and Hurricanes and the first since 2023 in the ACC tournament. That same season was the last trip to Miami, seeing the Hurricanes win two of three. The first meeting between the programs came in 1989 under head coach Ray Tanner. Since 1990, NC State has just 10 wins when playing the Hurricanes on the road.
The Hurricanes come into the weekend 12-3 in their last 15 games and pose a 9-1 record in their last 10 contests.
PROJECTED STARTING PITCHERS:
Friday: LHP Dominic Fritton (NCSU) vs. RHP Griffin Hugus (UM)
Saturday: RHP Heath Andrews (NCSU) vs. RHP AJ Ciscar (UM)
Sunday: LHP Ryan Marohn (NCSU) vs. RHP Tate DeRias (UM)
Josh Hogue and Chris McHugh have been consistent hitters all season for NC State. Hogue has reached base a team-high 20 times this season and is on an eight-game hitting streak. McHugh has also hit safely in eight straight games and has reached base in 16 straight games for the second time this season.
In addition to being named ACC Player of the Week, Brayden Fraasman was named the Golden Spikes Award Player of the Week and featured in the NCAA Baseball Lineup of the Week. Fraasman went 5-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs in game one against Clemson and hit .692 in the series.
Dominic Fritton and Ryan Marohn remain among the top pitchers in the conference and the nation. Marohn leads the ACC in IP with 65.2 on the season. He was brilliant on his way to his sixth win of the season after going eight innings, holding a Tigers offense to just one run on five hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. It was the first time since last year that Clemson was held to one run or less, dating back to the series against NC State last season, when the Pack shut out Clemson. Clemson had not been swept this season before coming to Raleigh.
