
Wolfpack Opens Homestand Against William & Mary

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's soccer opens a four-game homestand Thursday night against William & Mary. Thursday night's match is set for 6 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Thursday's match will stream live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available for the Pack's game against the Tribe.
SERIES HISTORY VS. WILLIAM & MARY
NC State and William & Mary will square off for the 21st time on Thursday night. A few notes tracking the Pack's home matchup against the Tribe are listed below:
• NC State and William & Mary will meet for the first time since Sept. 6, 2015. The Wolfpack and Tribe played in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015, both of which ended in victories for William & Mary.
• NC State is 0-5-1 in its past six matches against William & Mary, recording its last win in the series on Oct. 15, 1996, with a 2-1 overtime victory.
• NC State has exceled in postseason matchups against William & Mary. The Wolfpack is 4-1-0 in postseason matches against the Tribe, earning NCAA Tournament wins over William & Mary in 1986, 1989, 1990 and 1995. NC State's 1-0 win in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Nov. 9, 1986, was its first outright NCAA Tournament victory in program history.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
William & Mary (4-3-0) responded to its 0-2 start to the season with four straight victories, three of which were shutouts. The Tribe blanked George Mason, Temple and Richmond during its four-game winning streak prior to Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Princeton. Freshman defender Peyton Costello leads the Tribe with three goals and is tied with senior forward Leah Iglesias with a team-high seven points. Goalkeepers Jazzy Lorenz and Morgan Wood have each started multiple games for William & Mary. Lorenz has made six appearances with a 0.91 goals-against average and a .706 save percentage. William & Mary was predicted fifth in the 2024 CAA Women's Soccer Preseason Poll with junior forward Ivey Crain named to the 2024 Preseason All-CAA Women's Soccer Team.
40 YEARS IN RED & WHITE
Thursday night's match against William & Mary marks Alumni Night for the Wolfpack. NC State will honor its 40th anniversary of the women's soccer program during Thursday's game. NC State played its first-ever game on Sept. 12, 1984, when the Wolfpack notched a 9-0 victory over Methodist. Since then, the program has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, six NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances and recorded 20 double-digit win seasons. In addition, 10 Wolfpack student-athletes have achieved All-America accolades during their collegiate careers wearing the Red & White. In 1988, the Pack won its first ACC title and finished as the NCAA runner-up while posting a program-record 19 victories.
LISTED AMONGST THE NATION'S BEST
NC State was ranked No. 27 on SoccerWire's 2024 Best College Soccer Teams: Top 50 Current NCAA Women's Programs. Rankings are based on a combination of final United Soccer Coaches Polls and RPI rankings over the past five seasons. The Wolfpack has secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament in six of the past seven fall campaigns, highlighted by NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
NC State also ranks inside the top eight of all ACC programs on the list. The Wolfpack is one of 11 ACC programs inside the Top 50.
OKEKE HEADING TO U-20 WORLD CUP
In August, freshman defender Janet Okeke was announced as one of 21 players named to the Canadian Women's Soccer Under-20 Team for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The U-20 World Cup started on Aug. 31 with Canada recording a 3-3 draw against France before notching a 9-0 win over Fiji on Sept. 3. Okeke and Canada advanced out of group play and will face Spain in the Round of 16 on Wednesday. Okeke played in all three matches for Canada in group play, starting and playing all 90 minutes against both France and Brazil.
BRINGING GWU TO RALEIGH
NC State added a home match against George Washington on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Pack added the nonconference matchup as a replacement match for a canceled game against Colorado on Sept. 1.
