Wolfpack Claims Series With Wins on Thursday, Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State baseball team dropped Saturday's series finale to No. 11 North Carolina 14-3 at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Tar Heels (30-10, 15-6 ACC) avoided the sweep with Saturday's victory in Raleigh. North Carolina broke the scoreless deadlock behind a five-run third inning, capitalizing on a pair of Wolfpack errors to take a 5-0 lead. UNC second baseman Alex Madera then hit a solo shot in the fourth to make it 6-0.

NC State (22-15, 12-9 ACC) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Jacob Cozart smacked an opposite-field homer to left field, trimming the Pack's deficit to 6-1. Cozart's home run was his eighth of the season and his second on the weekend.

North Carolina plated three more runs in the sixth to stretch its lead to 9-1. Cozart homered for the second time on Saturday afternoon with another solo shot, lining a home run over the right-field wall for the second multi-homer game of his career. Cozart's second solo shot of the afternoon made it 9-2.

North Carolina added one run in the seventh, one in the eighth and three in the ninth to push the score to its final margin at 14-3. Josh Hogue added the Pack's final run of the day with an RBI single to shallow left field in the seventh.

Cooper Consiglio (1-4) suffered the loss after tossing 3.1 innings with a career-high four strikeouts. North Carolina starter Aidan Haugh improved to 3-0 after tossing six innings while allowing two runs with three strikeouts.
