• NC State and Campbell split two games this past season, both of which came in the NCAA Columbia Regional at South Carolina. The Wolfpack opened the Regional with a 5-1 victory over the 12th-ranked Fighting Camels before Campbell ended the Wolfpack's season with an 11-1 victory on June 4.
• NC State and Campbell last met at Doak Field at Dail Park on March 2, 2021. The Wolfpack capitalized on four Campbell errors in a 14-6 victory at The Doak. Luca Tresh, Austin Murr, J.T. Jarrett and Tyler McDonough each recorded multi-RBI efforts.
• Campbell notched a 7-4 win in the most recent regular season meeting on March 2, 2022, in Buies Creek.
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
Campbell (23-11) enters Tuesday's in-state matchup against the Wolfpack after dropping two games out of three to CAA foe Stony Brook this past weekend. The Fighting Camels opened the season 3-1 with three victories over ranked opponents, notching a series win over then-No. 17 UC Santa Barbara and a midweek win over No. 11 East Carolina. Campbell is 0-2 this season against ACC opponents, dropping a road midweek game at Duke and a home matchup to North Carolina. Campbell enters its first season in the Coastal Athletic Association and holds a 6-6 mark through 12 league games. The Fighting Camels rank first in the CAA and top-10 nationally in home runs (72) and homers per game (2.12). The Campbell offense also ranks first in the CAA in slugging percentage (.551), scoring (9.1) and total runs scored (308).
MOMENTUM SWING
NC State snapped its five-game losing streak in a huge way behind back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday night at No. 2 Clemson, notching its second ACC series win over a top-10 opponent this season and improving to 5-3 against ranked teams. Other notes from the Wolfpack's series win at Doug Kingsmore Stadium are listed below:
• NC State ended Clemson's 132-game streak without being shut out by its opponent in Saturday's series-clinching 4-0 victory.
• Saturday's shutout win snapped Clemson's streak of 15 straight series victories and marked the Tigers' first loss on a Saturday the entire season.
• NC State secured its third straight series win at Clemson and its fifth in its past six trips to Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
• Saturday's shutout victory marked NC State's first shutout win over a ranked opponent since April 1, 2023, over No. 11 Louisville.
• This past weekend's series win over Clemson marked the Wolfpack's first series victory against a top-five opponent since the Super Regional series win at Arkansas in 2021.
MIDWEEK MADNESS
To add to its difficult ACC slate, NC State faces five nonconference opponents predicted inside the top three of their respective leagues' preseason polls. Coastal Carolina (Sun Belt) and East Carolina (American) are both the preseason favorites to win their conference crowns. UNCW and Campbell are predicted second and third, respectively, in the CAA, while Ball State was predicted second in the MAC. The Wolfpack knocked off its first preseason favorite on March 19 with a 9-8 comeback victory over the 13th-ranked Chanticleers.
DOMINANT DOM
Dominic Fritton turned in his best performance of the season on one of the biggest stages in his young career, tossing a season-high 5.2 innings while allowing just three hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Fritton dominated Clemson batters the entire night, helping the Wolfpack shut out the second-ranked Tigers 4-0. Fritton's brilliant performance was a key part in snapping Clemson's 132-game streak without being shut out.
A-MAK AMBIDEXTROUS
Switch-hitting third baseman Alec Makarewicz has shown off his pop throughout the Wolfpack's 2024 campaign, ranking first on the roster with 13 homers. Makarewicz has homered from both the right side of the plate and the left side of the plate twice this season, accomplishing the feat for the second time in Tuesday's midweek matchup at UNCW. His first time homering from both sides was in the Wolfpack's win at Hawaii on Feb. 23.
RECORD AGAINST IN-STATE OPPONENTS
NC State finished 9-8 against in-state opponents in 2023, completing season sweeps of UNCG and UNCW before splitting a pair of NCAA Tournament matchups against No. 12 Campbell in June. The Pack's only nonconference losses came to in-state opponents Elon (March 14) and No. 12 East Carolina (April 4). NC State also recorded a 22-7 win over Davidson on April 18, a 5-4 victory over No. 12 ECU on April 25, a 6-5 win over NC A&T on May and an 8-7 win over Duke at the ACC Tournament on May 23.
Since taking over the NC State baseball program in 1997, head coach Elliott Avent has led the Pack to a 357-183 (.661) record against in-state opponents. NC State is 3-4 against in-state opponents so far this season.
Tuesday's game will stream live on ACC Network Extra. A free audio stream will be available for Tuesday's contest on the Varsity Network App and will be available on the radio on WKNC 88.1.
