Pack Two Shots Out of First after Day One of Watersound Invitational

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The NC State men's golf team is in fourth place, two shots back of the lead, after one round of play of the Watersound Invitational held at Shark's Tooth Golf Club.
The Pack was led Sunday by Spencer Oxendine, Easton Paxton and Maximilian Steinlechner who all shot one-under par 71 and are in a tie for eighth place.
Paxton had a consistent 18 holes, shooting par on 15 of the holes with two birdies and just one bogey in his first round.
Oxendine had a double bogey and a bogey with one birdie in his first six holes on Sunday, but settled down and had four birdies and just one bogey in his final 12 holes to post his score of 71.
After three consecutive bogeys, Steinlechner found himself five-over par through seven holes in his first round, but the Austria native caught fire as he made the turn, birdieing three consecutive holes before an eagle on hole 3 brought him back to even par. After a bogey, Steinlechner posted back-to-back birdies to finish at one-under par.
Ethan Choi had five birdies on Sunday, including four in his eight holes of play, but shot three-over after making the turn and finished in a tie for 30th place.
Brandon Einstein rounds out the NC State lineup in a tie for 64th place at eight-over par.
Georgia Tech leads the field after a first round score of three-under par. North Carolina and Virginia Tech are tied for second place, one shot back of the Yellow Jackets. The Pack is in fourth, one shot back of the Tar Heels and Hokies.
Alabama's Canon Claycomb has a two-shot lead on the field after a five-under 67 in the first round.
The Pack starts the second round Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.
