Pack Finishes in Second Place at JT Poston Invitational

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team wrapped up the three-day JT Poston Invitational on Tuesday in a tie for second place out of 17 teams at the event held at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club.
NC State rookie Clark Browne turned in one of the best performances by a freshman in program history. The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 10-under par to finish in a tie for fourth place.
Playing as an individual, Browne opened the tournament with a five-under par 66 and then posted rounds of 68 and 69. He has now played four of his six rounds this season under par.
Rylan Shim finished in a tie for 10th place, two shots behind Browne at eight-under par. The Virginia native opened the tournament with rounds of 66 and 67 to sit at nine-under par through 36 holes, before closing the event with a one-over par 72.
This event marked the 10th event for Shim in his NC State career. He has now posted three top-10 finishes in 10 events and this was his sixth top-20 finish.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament, Caedmon Albertyn finished one shot back of Shim in a tie for 13th place. The Monroe, N.C., native opened with a three-under par 68, before firing back-to-back rounds of 69 to close his freshman debut with three rounds of under par paly.
Hunter Stetson was next for the Pack in a tie for 15th place at six under par. Stetson opened the tournament by tying for the best 18-hole score of his collegiate career with a 67 and followed up with rounds of 69 and 71 to finish with a 54 hole score of 207.
His finish (15th) tied for his best finish of his NC State career while his 54-hole score (207) and score related to par (-6) were also both collegiate bests for the Newtown Square, Pa., native.
Xander Goboy finished one shot back of Stetson in a tie for 18th place. Goboy's second round score of 65 was the best 18-hole score of his collegiate career. His 18th place finish is the sixth top-20 finish of his career and his five-under par score marked the seventh time in his career he's finished a tournament with a score under par.
Owen Kinnunen, playing in his second tournament with the Pack, finished in a tie for 21st place. Kinnunen opened with a five-under par 66 and followed up with rounds of 73 and 70 to post the best finish of his young NC State career.
John Logan finished tied for 21st place alongside Kinnunen. He was consistent throughout all three rounds, posting under-par scores of 70, 69 and 70.
Pearce Lewin rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 64th place at three-over par. Lewin started the tournament with rounds of 70 and 68 to sit at four-under par through two rounds but a final round score of 78 knocked him out of a top-20 finish.
NC State shot a second round score of 15-under par (269, the best team round of any team in the field, to take a one shot lead into Tuesday's final round, but South Carolina shot a team score of 270 in the final 18 to pass the Pack and win the event by five shots.
the Pack finished in a tie for second place with Virginia Tech at 26-under par for the tournament.
NC State returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 29 when it begins play at the NB3 Matchplay Event at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.
