Wolfpack finishes seventh as a team
BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team wrapped up its second tournament of the year on Tuesday, finishing in seventh place at the Bryan National Collegiate on the Champions Course at the Bryan Park Golf Club.
Led by Lauren Olivares Leon and Natalie Armbruester's top 20 finishes, the Wolfpack had its best day of the tournament in the closing effort by posting a three-over par 291 in the final round of competition.
Olivares Leon led the Wolfpack with a two-under round of 70, finishing the week at T7th with a 213 (-3), good for NC State's first top 10 individual finish of the 2021-22 season. Additionally, it was the best finish of any NC State golfer since Monika Vicario's runner-up performance in the 2020 Lady Puerto Rico Classic on February 11.
Top-seeded Natlie Armbruester opened with back-to-back birdies en route to an even-par 72 to land in the top 20 for the first time in her career, shooting a four-over 220 over the course of the week. Her Tuesday round of 72 and tournament score of 220 both match her career best in those categories.
Not far behind Armbruester was Inja Fric, whose Tuesday 76 (+4) was enough to land her in a tie for 24th at six-over for the week. Her T24th showing in Browns Summit marked the best finish in her career.
Isabel Amezcua and Lea Klimentova rounded out the Wolfpack's top five players in the team competition, with Klimentova tying her season-best round at 73 (+1) and Amezcua finishing at a four-over 76.
Tournament co-host Wake Forest claimed the first-place finish, shooting a 14-under 850 over 54 holes of play. Charlotte's Kaiyuree Moodley took home the medalist honors with a seven-under par 209.
NC State's two individual competitors, Ryann Sinclair and Nicole Kramer, each posted their best rounds of the week at 77 (+5) to finish 51st and 57th, in respective order. Kramer's 77 on Tuesday and tournament score of 234 are both career lows.
The Wolfpack is off to a hot start in the young season, as the team's result in the Bryan National Collegiate is one stroke off the season-opening Cougar Classic score of 881. Both scores from the team's opening tournaments are the best in the 2021 calendar year.
Next up for the Pack will be the three-day Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., taking place at UNC-Chapel Hill's Finley Golf Club October 15-17.
