Â
HIDLAY BROTHERS BOTH BRING IN #2 NATIONAL RANKING
With each ranked #2 in their weight class this week in all six polls, Hayden and Trent Hidlay are the first set of brothers in the NCAA to be ranked among the top two in their weight class at the same time since 1993 (Ohio State - Stiebers).
Â
Off back-to-back All-American seasons, R-Jr. Hayden Hidlay started the season the consensus #1 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds in all six polls. He started the season 12-0, before falling to #2 Deakin in the finals at the Cliff Keen Invite.
Â
He became only the third wrestler in school history to All-American as both a freshman and sophomore, and he currently ranks second in school history in career win/loss percentage (.912- 62-6).
Â
In his first season of action, younger brother R-Fr. Trent Hidlay has quickly ascended up to #2 rankings at 184 pounds thanks in large part to three wins vs. top-five foes thus far.
Â
Trent was ranked #15 at the weight in the preseason. That all changed on Nov. 23, as he scored a pair of top-five wins in a pair of duals, and was named the ACC Wrestler of the Week - one week after Hayden was.
Â
First Hidlay scored a takedown with 12 seconds left to down #5 Darmstadt of Cornell 7-5. Then later in the day at Binghamton, Hidlay scored an escape in extra time to down #4 DePrez, 2-1. He followed up by making the finals at the Cliff Keen Invite, taking out #3 Lujan of Northern Iowa in the semifinals, 8-4.
