RALEIGH – Preparing for the 2026-27 season, NC State wrestling has added another wrestler from the transfer portal. The Wolfpack welcomes redshirt-freshman Liam Hickey from North Carolina, who competed at 133 lbs last season.
In his true freshman collegiate campaign, the Raleigh, N.C., native collected a 7-4 record at 133 lbs. Hickey wrestled at the Mountaineer Open in November, where he earned two bonus-point victories. He also tallied back-to-back major decisions at the Franklin & Marshall Open in early January and claimed four wins to be the champion of the Appalachian Open in late January.
Hickey grew up in the area, attending Cardinal Gibbons, where he was a two-time state champion and earned All-America honors twice. His father wrestled at Hofstra under current Ohio State coach Tom Ryan.
This new addition marks the third transfer portal signing for Pat Popolizio and his crew, after previously bringing in Bennett Tabor from Minnesota and Jake Dailey, also from North Carolina.
