
Pack in Second After Two Rounds of Stitch Intercollegiate

CARY, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team is in second place after two rounds of play at the Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs Country Club.
The Pack shot a six-under par 282 for the second consecutive day to remain towards the top of the leaderboard. Duke went from fourth place to a 10-shot lead after shooting a tournament-low 270 in the second round. The Pack has a one-shot lead on Wake Forest and East Carolina who are tied for third place.
Junior Stephen Franken led the Pack on Saturday with a three-under par 69. The Raleigh native had five birdies and just two bogeys on Saturday. Franken is tied for seventh place in the 68-player field as he aims for his seventh top-10 finish of the season.
Junior Justin Hood is tied with Franken on the leaderboard as he fired another round under par, this time a two-under par 70 on Saturday. Hood made the turn at even-par in the second round, but played the final nine holes with three birdies and a bogey to come in at two-under. Hood has now fired his best two rounds of the season in back-to-back rounds at the Stitch Intercollegiate.
Freshman Easton Paxton shot a one-under par 71 on Saturday and now is in a tie for 17th place on the individual leaderboard. Paxton had an eventual day on the golf course as he had two double bogeys and two bogeys, but responded with seven birdies to come in under par. The Riverton, Wyo., native stood at two-over for the round after 14 holes, but closed his day with three birdies and a par.
Sophomore Benjamin Shipp is tied with Paxton for 17th place after he fired an ever-par 72 on Saturady. The Duluth, Ga., native has now played four of his last five rounds at even or below par.
Like Shipp, Harrison Rhoades shot an even-par 72 on Saturday and is in a tie for 23rd place at even-par for the tournament. The Raleigh native was at two-over for the round as he teed off on 17, but registered an eagle on that hole to pull even on the day.
Nolan Mills Jr., and Christian Salzer are both competing as individuals this weekend.
Mills Jr., shot a one-under par 71 on Saturday and is now tied for 31st on the individual leaderboard. The Charlotte native had five birdies in the second round, including three consecutive on holes 16-18.
Salzer is in a tie for 46th on the leaderboard after shooting a three-over par 75 on Saturday.
The third and final round starts Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. NC State's lineup will hit the course at 8:40 a.m.
