Pack Men Close Strong to Finish in Third Place at Cullan Brown Collegiate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The NC State men's golf team closed strongly in the final nine holes of the 54-hole Cullan Brown Collegiate to finish in third place out of 15 teams in the event held at the Lexington Country Club.
NC State's four countable scorers in the final round on Tuesday combined to play their final four holes at nine-under par to help the Pack move five spots up the team leaderboard from eighth to third.
Pearce Lewin and John Logan each finished one shot out of a top-10 finish as the duo tied for 12th at one-under par for the tournament.
Lewin got better every round as he shot a 74 in the first round, a 70 in the second round and then a three-under par 68 in the final round. Lewin birded his final three holes of the tournament.
Logan was a picture of consistency throughout the tournament as he posted round of even-par 71 in both the first and second round before shooting a one-under par 70 in the third round on Tuesday. Logan played the final nine holes of the tournament at two-under par.
Rylan Shim was next for the Pack at three-over par for the tournament. Shim shot a three-under 68 in the first round to close the first 18 holes in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard. After a second round 77, Shim rebounded with an even-par final round. The Centerville, Va., native birdied three of his final five holes to help the Pack move up the team standings.
Xander Goboy was next for the Pack in a tie for 42nd place, two shots back of Shim. Goboy was the Pack's top performer in the second round as he shot a two-under par 69.
Hunter Stetson rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 68th place. Like Lewin, Stetson got better every round as he bounced back from rounds of 77 and 76 to shoot a 72 on Tuesday. Stetson closed his tournament by birdieing three of his final four holes.
Tennessee won the tournament while Mississippi State finished in second. The Pack finished two shots back of the Bulldogs in third place, one shot ahead of tournament-host Kentucky.
NC State closes the fall portion of its schedule in two weeks when it plays in the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C. Oct. 18-20.
