KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — With six spots at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships up for grabs on the three-meter board on the opening day of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, NC State sophomore James Brady seized the occasion and punched his ticket to Minneapolis by finishing fourth with a score of 711.51 Monday inside the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
From the Coach
"Today was a really exciting day," said diving coach Yahya Radman. "Madeline started us off this morning where she snuck unto finals, didn't have a stellar list but came back in the second session and truly out-did herself. It's a good place to be and a good warmup to gauge where we are compared to the competition. Tomorrow's a new day for her as she'll be competing in the afternoon session with hopefully a little more rest; on the men's side, they did a really nice job, all four of them. They battled tooth and nail for every point that they earned. Stewart did an outstanding job of dipping in and out of the top five, but consistency is what you need at the end of the day in this competition. Holt has a very bright future as he came back raring to go in the finals and I could not be prouder of him and I believe it was a personal best, but the highlight was steady-eddy, Slim Jim, who dominated from the first dive to the last, put everything together, learned from his mistakes at conference and previous meets and went toe-to-toe with some of the big dogs, placing himself as the second-best three-meter diver in our conference and fourth in our zone is a huge feather in his hat. Tomorrow is a new day and I'm looking forward to seeing where we go.
Wolfpack Diving Results
The Wolfpack men opened the Championships on a high-note, highlighted by James Brady finishing fourth on three-meter along with Holt Gray and Stewart Spanbauer also advancing to the final. Brady's mark of 711.55 saw him finish fourth, the second-best result of any ACC diver on three-meter. Gray's mark of 652.55 saw him finish 15th while Stewart Spanbauer finished 18th with a score of 620.000. Harrison Mitchell performed strongly in the prelim and just missed out on a spot in the final he finished 19th with a mark of 308.80.
Kline tabbed a mark of 518.85 in the final on one-meter to finish sixteenth. In the prelim she took 18th with a score of 253.40.
