
Shipp Claims Medalist Honors; Pack Takes Team Title at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team defended its Wolfpack Intercollegiate title Sunday as the Pack shot an 18-under par 270 to hold off the field and win its first team title of the 2018-19 season.
Junior Benjamin Shipp won the individual title as the Duluth, Ga., native fired an eight-under par 64 to best the 90-player individual field and claim his second collegiate individual title.
Shipp came into the day in a tie for fourth place, but quickly moved in front as he shot a seven-under par 29 on the front nine. The NC State junior opened with an eagle and after two pars, had five consecutive birdies. Shipp had two more birdies on the back nine, shooting a 64 on the final day.
Shipp finished with a tournament scorecard of 73-66-64—203.
Senior Stephen Franken was next for the Pack in a tie for sixth place. The Raleigh native had a bogey free day, finishing with one birdie on the front nine and four on the back nine as he shot a 67.
Like Shipp, Franken got better every round as his final tournament scorecard was 72-69-67—208.
Christian Salzer finished in a tie for 15th place. The Sumter, S.C., native shot his best round as a member of the Pack on Sunday as he shot a four-under par 68 and finished with a final tournament scorecard of 75-69-68—212.
Easton Paxton finished in a tie for 19th place. The Riverton, Wyo., native shot a one-under par 71 in the third round and finished with a scorecard of 70-72-71—213.
Harrison Rhoades rounded out the Pack lineup in a tie for 40th place. The Raleigh native shot a 74 on Sunday and finished with a scorecard of 73-71-74—218.
The tournament title is the third in two seasons for the Pack with Press McPhaul as head coach.
Jacksonville finished in second place, seven shots back of the Pack, while UNCG finished in third.
The Pack also had six players in the individual field. Justin Hood led the group of individuals as he finished in a tie for 29th place. Davis Richards finished in a tie for 40th place, Nolan Mills in a tie for 53rd place, freshman Andrew Wilmoth in his first tournament with the Pack finished in 58th place. Thomas Deal (73rd place) and Dwight Cauthen (79th) rounded out the Pack contingent.
