The second round of play at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate held at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, was suspended on Monday evening because of darkness with the NC State men's golf team in third place.
The Pack was in third place after the first round and with a strong second round effort through 15 holes it has pulled within two shots of second place Arkansas. Defending National Champion Oklahoma State has a 16-shot lead on the field.
Defending ACC Player of the Year Stephen Franken shot an opening round 71, but caught fire in the second round. The Raleigh native has seven birdies with three holes still to play in the second round and has moved up to second place on the individual leaderboard, one shot back of the leader. Through 33 holes of play, Franken is five-under par.
Junior Benjamin Shipp and senior Harrison Rhoades are both in a tie for 25th place at five-over par. Shipp shot a team-best 68 in the second round, but has run into some trouble in the second round. Rhoades shot a five-over par 75 in the first round, but through 15 holes in the second round is even-par for the round.
Sophomore Easton Paxton is one shot back of Rhoades and Shipp in a tie for 30th place. Paxton shot a three-over par 73 in the first round and is three-over par in the second round.
Junior Christian Salzer is in a tie for 56th place at 12-over par. After an 80 in the first round, Salzer has rebounded with one of the team's best efforts in the second round, sitting at two-over par for the round with three holes still left to play.
