
Gymnastics To Face First Road Test Of Season At Utah State

Pack to face Aggies and Bowling Green in tri-meet
RALEIGH – The No. 15 NC State gymnastics team is set for its first of a two-meet road swing as it travels to No. 40 Utah State Friday for a tri-meet with the Aggies and 45th-ranked Bowling Green State.
The meet is set for a 9 p.m. ET start inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum and will be streamed via AggiesTV.com. Live stats will also be available.
Last Time Out
NC State opened its season on Jan. 8 when it hosted the third-ranked Florida Gators inside the newly renovated Coliseum. The Wolfpack turned in a team score of 194.925 while Florida posted a 197.100.
Three of the team's four freshmen made their collegiate debuts, while sophomore Paris Phillips made her first appearance as an all-arounder for the Pack. The team additionally had three gymnasts set or match career highs: Chelsea Knight (BB, FX, AA), Maggie Tamburro (V, FX) and Paris Phillips (FX).
Off To A Hot Start
Knight, a junior, is off to a hot start in her second season competing as an all-arounder for the Pack, earning four top-five finishes and setting career bests on beam (9.900), floor (9.850) and in the all-around competition (39.350).
In result of her impressive season debut, she was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday. Her beam and all-around scores were the highest marks among the league in week one competition.
In the national individual rankings she is ranked fifth on beam, 13th in the all-around competition and 22nd on floor.
Pack In The Polls
After the first week of NCAA competition, NC State is ranked 15th in the Road To Nationals poll.
As a team NC State is listed among the top 25 of all four rotations. Its highest event ranking is on vault at 11th (48.950), and is also listed 20th on bars (48.675), 23rd on floor (48.725) and 24th on beam (48.575).
In the conference standings the Pack sits at No. 2 behind No. 10 George Washington, who defeated Yale in its season opener with a 195.550.
Scouting Utah State
The 40th-ranked Aggies opened their season on Jan. 6 with a tri-meet at No. 25 Arizona with Texas Woman's. Utah State placed second with a score of 191.600, holding a 1-1 record on the season.
Scouting Bowling Green State
The Falcons traveled to Penn State on Jan. 7 for a quad meet with the 23rd-ranked Nittany Lions, No. 36 Brigham Young and Temple. The team placed fourth in the final standings with a 190.725. BGSU holds a 0-3 record heading into week two of competition.
