RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Led by a third-place finish from senior Carter Page, the NC State men's golf team placed 11th in a very competitive field at the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic. The Wolfpack saved its best round of the tournament for last, firing a 285 (-3) on Tuesday to end the tournament with a three-round score of 877 (+13).
Page finished just three strokes behind the tournament's individual champion—Robby Shelton of Alabama—en route to earning the highest individual finish of all Atlantic Coast Conference golfers participating in the event. The third-place result is the best finish of his career and marks the fifth time he's finished within the top five of a tournament field. Page's 66 (-6) in the final round marks a new career best and ties the lowest round set by a Wolfpack golfer this season.
In a stacked field which featured six top-25 teams, the Wolfpack finished ahead of Minnesota, UNC Greensboro, Michigan, and ACC foe Virginia Tech. No. 17 Alabama claimed top honors at the tournament, shooting a team score of 839 (-25) to win by nine strokes.
