Wolfpack Opens Spring at Stacked Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Following a very successful fall 2015 season, the NC State men's golf team begins spring tournament play Sunday at the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic. Hosted by Purdue University on the Rio Mar River Course, the 54-hole event will be played over the course of three days.

The stacked tournament field features six teams currently ranking in the top 25 of Golfstat's ranking system and 15 programs in all.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 2016 Puerto Rico Classic will feature a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday morning. Teams will play 18 holes each day, with Tuesday's tee times for the final round determined by results from the prior two rounds.

FALL RECAP
NC State posted a very strong fall season which included a competitive record of 60-10-1 and 11 individual top-20 finishes. As a team, the Wolfpack never finished worse than fifth place and ended the fall with the following four results: 2nd of 15, 2nd of 16, 3rd of 15, and 3rd of 19.

FRESHMAN CLASS IMPACT
NC State ranks second in the nation in the Golfstat Freshman Class Impact Ranking as of February 15. Wolfpack freshmen are averaging 72.7 strokes per round this season. Only Florida's freshman class (72.5 per 18) has been more successful.

Stephen Franken – Freshman leads team with 71.5 stroke average.
Jacob McBride – Two top-10 finishes in the fall.
David Cooke – Two top-20 finishes in the fall.
Carter Page – Four career top-10 finishes.
Davis Richards – Freshman ranks second on team with 71.9 stroke average.
