Wolfpack Ties for Third at Alister MacKenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. – The NC State men's golf team earned a very strong finish at the 2016 Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday, tying for third in the field of 15 teams. The Wolfpack was led by top-14 finishes from freshman Benjamin Shipp (T10) and senior Jacob McBride (T14).

NC State entered the final round of play sitting fifth in the team standings. The Wolfpack shot a 279 (-4) on Tuesday to climb two spots in the rankings. NC State finished just one stroke out of a tie for second place with Oregon State and seven strokes behind Arizona State, the tournament champion. Among the 11 teams NC State finished ahead of at the tournament was No. 8 San Diego State, which finished two strokes behind the Wolfpack.

GREAT START TO A CAREER
Entering his freshman season as the No. 1 ranked junior golfer in the class of 2016, Shipp has started his collegiate career in fantastic fashion. The Duluth, Ga., native has earned two top-10 finishes in the first three tournaments of his career and has never finished outside the top 25 of a tournament field.

STRONG FINAL ROUND
All four of NC State's counted scores on Tuesday were at or below par. Shipp and McBride shot 69s (-2), Davis Richards carded a 70 (-1), and Justin Hood shot an even-par 71.

NC State closes the fall portion of the 2016-17 season by participating in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Grandover Resort in Greensboro Oct. 30-31.
